CHARITY EVENT
Dear Angler(s)
Just a few words of welcome, I as many of you are aware am the Secretary
for the Police Sport UK Fly Fishing Section and for the last 8 years I
have run a Fly Fishing Competition between the Police and the Armed
Services on Grafham Water. At this match we have been joined by a number
of other Services of the United Kingdom, colleagues from the other two
emergency services Fire & Rescue and the Ambulance Service, the match
has also attracted rods from the Civil Service, Prison Service and I
know a couple from the Education Service are at the edge just waiting
their moment to enter.
These matches have always been well supported and fished in a truly
friendly but sportsman like fashion, but we were all acutely aware that
the matches didn’t embrace some of angling colleagues who had been
injured in the service to their country.
So with this event I am endeavouring to make amends. The event will run
during the week of the Stirling International Angling Festival and I
hope to embrace some aspects that the festival will create. The Charity
Competition will run from Wednesday 6th – Sunday 10th August 2014.
Anglers are invited to participate in the event as either an individual
or in a 3 person team. I have secured a number of boats at the
Lake of Menteith and Carron Valley over the 5 days of the event allowing
anglers to select a venue to fish a qualifier before reaching a final
match at the Lake of Menteith on the Sunday 10th August.
Boats are available at the Lake of Menteith on Wednesday 6th / Thursday
7th and on Carron Valley on Friday 8th & Saturday 9th. I do
appreciate that if you are successful on the Saturday at Carron Valley,
you will be invited to a final at the Lake the following day.
At the end of each match I have arranged a bite to eat for the
competitors where the results will be announced, details of these venues
will be confirmed nearer the time.

The cost is £55.00 per individual angler, £150.00 for a team of
three; the money will go towards the overall cost of fishing and
participating in the event. The cost of the Sunday final; fishing and
meal afterwards for the qualifying teams and individuals are free. At
the conclusion of the event I will then divide the money I have
collected into to four and send it to the respective organisations 40%
will go to Help for Hero’s, 25% to the Police Dependants Trust, 25% to
the Fire Fighters Charity with the final 10% being allocated to Services
Championships where disabled members of the services will join their
more able colleagues at the annual all Services Championships.
The organisation of this event is still at the early stages,
unfortunately through the powers that control my position within Police
Sport UK I can offer no monetary prizes for first, second and third
place. However I have been touch with several people who wish to donate
some fantastic prizes and as such these will allocated to those
individuals and team members that do well in the event. I may even
run a small raffle again to generate funds for the respective charities.
I am also endeavouring to ensure that a commemorative medal is arranged
for anglers not only winning heats and the final, but participating and
raising money for such good causes.
In the event of cancellation of any heat as result of the weather or
other unforeseen cause then efforts will be made to provide another
suitable date, however if this is not possible the Entry Fee will be
refunded to the person completing the entry form, though this will done
by post and not on the morning of any match. Any additional donation
will refunded at the discretion of the competitor.
In the event of a competitor cancelling his or their entry to this
Charity match neither the entry fee or raised donation will be refunded.
I would recommend that a replacement angler be found to compete in their
place.
If a date desired for a heat is over-subscribed, I will endeavour find
another mutually agreed date or time for a competitor to fish. Initially
I thought about keeping all four heats prior to the Final on the Sunday
as day sessions; however I have split Thursday at the Lake into a Day &
Evening Session and the Friday at Carron Valley similarly. It will give
organising team a little challenge to ensure we are there to see you on
the water and provide refreshments at the conclusion. However, if I fail to secure a
date and time for a competitor wishing to participate the Entry fee will
be refunded.
You will note on the Entry Form I have left space for you to select the
date, venue, and whether you wish to participate as a team or
individual, please put a tick or cross in the appropriate box
The Rules for this event are the Fisheries own rules, which can be
obtained from the fishery offices at both venues. I have agreed that
after you have despatched your fourth fish, anglers will debarb hooks
and fish Catch & Release thereafter. The returned fish will be recorded
on cards which will be provided on the day and endorsed by your fishing
partner. A Health & Safety Risk Assessment will be carried out prior to
each competition commencing and anglers will be guided through this at a
briefing prior to the fishing commencing. Participants in these events
will be covered by Police Sport UK insurance during the times of the
competition.
I have endeavoured to answer all the possible questions that may
arise when reading this entry form, should you have any questions please
don’t hesitate in contacting me either via email or the mobile phone
Yours in fishing & tight lines
