Grading 19th November 2006

A large number of students both junior and adult turned out for a very successful grading. Under the watchful eye of Sensei Marshall both Sensei Thomas Evans  and Richard Blore ably assisted by Instructors Fraser Dykes and Stephen Paterson put the karate-ka (students) through their paces. Although it was definitely a difficult time for some of the students, if not all, each student performed to the best of their ability with some exceeding even the instructors expectations. After a gruelling two hour session the junior students were informed of the results of their efforts and and a list of the grades awarded are listed below. Each student who took part are congratulated on their efforts and fine achievements.

In addition to the junior several of the adult students were received high gradings and their results will be published shortly.

However, congratulations must go to two 1st kyu students namely  Andrew Bauer  and Susan Adams who were awarded  Shodan (1st Dan - Blackbelt). Both students have trained at Cambusbarron Karate Club for several years and truly deserve this grading for their efforts and technical ability in the Martial arts. Well done to both Andrew & Susan.

In addition Fraser Dykes, of Thornhill, was promoted to Sandan (3rd Dan)  in recognition of his contribution, training, ability and understanding of the Martial Art Makoto-Kai Karate-Do. The Instructors within Makoto-Kai Karate-Do wish Fraser, and all the other students, who gained promotion in the grades, well for the future and we hope that you remember the  words of Master Funakoshi who wrote in his poem:

To Search for the old is to understand the new
The old, the new
This is a matter of time.
In all things man must have a clear mind.
The Way:
Who will pass it on straight and well?

STIRLING SPORTS COUNCIL

Our club is fully affiliated with Stirling Sports Council and shortly all new and potential instructors will be undergoing  First Aid, Child Protection and Coaching training. It is hoped, that in the near future, Makotokai Karate-Do Association will attain a "Charter Club" status. This will require a fair amount of effort from several individuals however hopefully we should achieve this goal with the assistance of the Sports Council Advisory Staff.

The assistance provided by Sara, our Child Protection Officer, has been greatly appreciated and our policy is now available on the website.

Tom Evens and Richard Blore
Promoted to 5th Dan

A special event took place prior to the commencement of training this week. Sensei Marshall,Tom Eveans receiving 5thDan Scroll from Sensei Marshall Richard Blore receiving 5th Dan Scroll from Sensei Marshallfounder of Makotokai, announced that after examining  Sensei Blore and Sensei Evans he had decided to promote both instructors to 5th Dan. Sensei Marshall explained that both Tom and Richard had been studying and training hard over the past years and it had now been five years since their last grading.  Sensei Marshall explained that gradings are only one way to demonstrate a student's advancement  in Martial Arts. Truly the colour of the belt is immaterial, it is what is inside the gi (training suit) that is of real importance. Tom and Richard have demonstrated that not only are they proficient in the art of Makotokai Karate  but that they possess the appropriate high level of integration of the powers of mind and body, the harmonious combination of physical means and ethical motives.
